Living Abroad, LLC is privately held and has offices in Norwalk, CT, USA.

Living Abroad is supporter of and participant with key industry organizations such as the Worldwide ERC, the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC), The Forum for Expatriate Management (FEM), Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Global HRNews. Living Abroad also runs the NYC FEM Chapter.


Ed Barnhart is Managing Director of Living Abroad LLC. In this role he is responsible for business development in North America, UK, Europe, Asia and the Middle East for all Living Abroad Internet based products. Mr. Barnhart also manages Living Abroad’s multi-national Client base, many of which are listed on the Fortune 1000 & FTSE 100 list of Global Corporations.  Prior to joining Living Abroad he was associated with Craighead Inc. in Sales and Marketing. Mr. Barnhart spent 20 years in Professional Publishing in senior management positions developing and launching new products. He has extensive background in identifying and developing electronic solutions to solve business information needs.


Michael CaddenSoon after joining Craighead Publications in 1995 Michael became the force behind converting the printed publications of country information to the Web. With that success he later became the Managing Director of Living Abroad LLC in 2002 and is behind its highly successful transformation, culminating with the acquisition of the legacy Craighead business in 2008.  He has created several breakthrough presentations and delivered them dozens of times in the USA, Latin America and Europe. Winning topics have included “10 Year Trends in Global Mobility” (2005), “The Dark Side of Short-term Assignments” (2006), “Relocating Generation Y” (2007), “Technology and Global Mobility” (2008) and “Technology vs. Global Employee Privacy” (2009/10)


As Managing Director of Marketing & Business Development, Cathy Heyne has overall responsibility for client retention, new business, developing partnerships, and marketing for the Living Abroad services.  The International Relocation Center was formerly known as Craighead Country Reports.  Cathy has been involved with the International Relocation Center for 12 years, and oversaw the successful transition of hard copy to the current online service under the Craighead name.  Current clients of Living Abroad are many of the Fortune 1000 and government organizations as well.  She is co-facilitator of the Forum for Expatriate Management New York City Chapter, which brings mobility thought leaders to the corporate community through monthly meetings.


Ellen Harris, originally from Boston, has lived in the New York metro area for 25 years.For 14 of those years, she has been a part of the International Relocation Center, Living Abroad’s core product – first as a freelance editor while working another job, then as Senior Editor and currently as International Product Director. She has been published several times in trade publications such as Security Magazine, Mobility, and Global HRNews. She is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, with a BA in English and a minor in Business.


Erin Fitzgerald’s career as a writer and editor began with Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions, where she contributed to the company’s first graduate school admissions consulting guides. She entered the corporate relocation industry in 1995 as a sales and marketing writer for Cartus, and later worked for GMAC Global Relocation (now Brookfield Global Relocation Services) in a similar capacity. In 2005, Erin became a web editor for the International Relocation Center at Move.com. Last year, she joined the Living Abroad, LLC team as International Product Manager. Erin holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in writing from Sarah Lawrence College, and she has led writing workshops for several organizations throughout western Connecticut.

Nicole NicholsNicole Nichols joined Living Abroad in 2012 as an International Research Associate.  Prior to this she had administrative and client service roles with the Hartford and other Connecticut insurance companies. After relocating for her husband’s job, she wanted to move her career in a new direction. “This is the most interesting job I have ever had and the best company to work for” she has told us. Her job is to fact check international reports that come from our worldwide resources and to research new topics for our clients.


Born in Madawaska, Ontario, Canada and raised among humans, X. Pat is the original founder of Living Abroad Publications in 1987. He married Martha Stewart Cowwe in 1982 and together they have a one daughter, Moosette. X. Pat is well known in the mobility industry with more than 3,500 Linkedin contacts and he is a frequent speaker at ERC, NFTC, Global HR News and the Forum for Expatriate Management as well as being widely published on a wide number of assignment topics. X. Pat holds a Masters Degree in International Relations and has been on fifteen international assignments in the past twenty-five years. He is in charge of researching new destinations for Living Abroad’s clients.
